FAQs
Do you have to qualify to race the championships?
You must qualify to race in the Elite, Age Group and Competitive Team Race divisions of the OCR European Championships. You can qualify via the races listed below in the UK after June 12th 2022 for the 3K and 15k. Para, OCR 100m and National Team Race requires national team selection.
Do you have to be a British Obstacle Sports member?
Yes, qualification to the OCR European Championships is via your national federation. So you either need to be a British Obstacle Sports member to represent the British National Team and meet certain eligibility criteria.
Do you have to be a British citizen to qualify or be selected for the British National Team?
You must meet certain eligibility requirements to represent the British National Team such as citizenship and length of residency. Some newer residents may not be able to represent Team UK. We will support all British Obstacle Sports members, so if this applies to you please reach out to us. More information is below in the foreign athletes section.

Please complete an adult or under 18 national team application so we can confirm your spot. Further details are documented in our selection policy. This is especially important for the 100m and National Team Relay.

Unless specified the positions are always gender specific (e.g. Top 3 in gender etc.).
* No more than 50% of an age group/wave at a specific event can qualify for the OCREC (e.g. if an age group/wave has ten competitors, only the top five athletes are deemed qualifiers). In the event of an odd number of finishers, the qualifying criteria is rounded up in favour of the athlete. Please contact us if there is only athlete in an age group.
** Must meet Nuts qualification criteria. See Nuts website for more information.
*** The 50% rule above applies to elite qualification at Spartan Race for the OCR European Championships. If an athlete cannot qualify for the elite wave due to this rule they may be considered for age group qualification based on their finish time if they would have qualified for age group qualification if they ran that wave.

Adaptive Athletes
Details on Para OCR European Championships qualification will be shared shortly. Please contact British Obstacle Sports if you are an adaptive athlete who would like to compete.
Junior Athletes
- Minimum age for 3K short course: 12 years on race day
- Minimum age for all other competitions: 15 years on race day
Foreign Athletes
Those who do not qualify to represent Team UK, but live in the UK may still qualify for the 3K & 15K OCR European Championships at UK qualification races if you are from the following countries:
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Spain
In addition, athletes from the following countries can travel to the UK to try to qualify:
- Estonia
- Denmark
In all circumstances, membership of the national federation you will represent is required as this country will confirm your selection. If you have qualified in the UK or your country is not listed, please contact your national federation for further information.
British Obstacle Sports will accept qualification results for the 3K and 12K for British athletes from any European qualification event. Please contact British Obstacle Sports if this applies to you.
