Short course national team selection

For the 2024 OCR European Championships you can only be selected for the British National Short Course Team at short course events. Given the smaller number of these events in the UK, we will be working with events and training centres to offer more options for qualification. We will also include some events such as the Spartan South West Sprint that are slightly longer than the British Obstacle Sports definition of a short course.

What is the 50% rule?

Unless specified, no more than 50% of an age group in a division at a specific event can qualify for the OCREC (e.g. if an age group has 6 athletes, only the top 3 athletes are deemed qualifiers, even if there are more qualification spots available). The calculation is based on the number of starting participants in the race/relevant heat and not the number of athletes who finished the race/heat. In case of an odd number we round up in favour of the athletes). In a case where there is only one athlete in a wave, the athlete can request that British Obstacle Sports review the selection based on the times of other athletes of similar age in other age groups.

Under 18 Athletes

The minimum age to compete is 12 years old on race day. Please read our selection policy or visit the OCR European Championships website for full details.

Foreign Athletes

Those who do not qualify to represent Team UK should contact their national federation for details on how to qualify for the event.

Yes. You will need to ask your doctor to provide you with a letter confirming that you are declared to race.

Yes. All competitors in Elite/AG and open categories need a medical certificate completed by their doctor. Children taking part in the fun race do not need to submit a certificate.

If you have had an ECG within the last 10 years, you can submit this to your doctor to review and reference for your declaration of fitness. However you do not need to submit an ECG as part of your race registration.

You have until the end of April 2024 to upload your medical certificate to your race registration.
