Why should you become a member?

We aspire to establish obstacle course racing (OCR) and ninja sport as recognised UK sports to help drive increased participation and community funding from sources such as the National Lottery. We believe obstacle sports can encourage more people to play sport and be physically active, a key objective for UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Scotland and Sport Wales. This is something we as an organisation passionately believe in and why we volunteer our time at British Obstacle Sports. A membership programme is required for recognition as an official UK sport. We get our legitimacy from our members and so we are governed by our members for the members. The British Obstacle Sports membership programme is open to all.

British Obstacle Sports is a voluntary organisation with no paid roles, but there are costs and expenses that need to be covered to be run effectively. We hope the benefits will provide value for money, but ultimately we ask you to join us on a journey to further develop our community and the sport.

Ever wondered how you can support British Obstacle Sports more?

Our national governing body is 100% staffed by volunteers, helping to deliver a number of important services for our members and our sport. We want to keep our sport as accessible as possible, and we are committed to keeping our membership fees super low to support this goal. We can only do this with the amazing support of our volunteers. This said, we believe that to truly develop the sport, we need to move to an organisational model where we can afford a small, part-time staff so that we can reduce the over-reliance on volunteers. This will become increasingly important as we further develop our youth programme and work towards achieving our vision and mission.

We now offer a British Obstacle Sports True Cost Subscription, costing £5 a month reflecting the true cost of our membership. The subscription is conveniently paid for via PayPal and comes with a number of benefits. Most importantly, you’ll be helping British Obstacle Sports develop ninja and OCR in the UK.
