Race review by Vicky Wheelhouse.
What is Tartan Warrior?
Tartan Warrior is an event held at the Fit Body Farm training centre in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire. Taking place on the last weekend in March, this year’s event offered racers the chance to run 100m, 3K, 5K, and 8K courses. There was a mix of fun and competitive races, with the 3K serving as the British 3K Championship race. The event also provided opportunities to qualify for the OCR European and World Championships in the 100m, short and standard course formats.

Overall, it’s a highly versatile event with something for every racer, from the most competitive athletes to those simply looking for a fun challenge.
But was it worth the travel?
Absolutely. The whole family took part in what turned out to be a brilliant weekend away. We live in East London, so some planning was needed to make it happen. We flew there and back (booking early kept costs reasonable), while others chose to drive.
The kids completed both the 3K and 5K and left desperate to do more races in the future. The obstacles were well designed, with multiple ways to complete many of them. Racers could choose a safer, slower route or take a risk to save precious time, which made the course very accessible to a wide range of abilities.

The atmosphere was fantastic. Despite not being locals, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. It quickly became clear why Fit Body Farm and this event had won so many accolades at the UKOCR Awards, including Tartan Warrior winning the 2024 OCR Event of the Year.

Would you go again?
Yes. Dates for next year haven’t been confirmed yet, but I’ve kept the last weekend in March clear so I can book as soon as they are. It was a wonderful weekend away with the family and gave us memories we’ll treasure.
